Samsung is on a steroids these days launching a new touch screen phone one after the another. Another addition to the Samsung’s wide range of touchscreen handsets is Samsung Jet.

While attending a blogger interaction event today organized by Samsung, we got a closer look of the new mobile, Samsung Jet.

Lets have a look at its key features:

  • A powerful 800MHz processor (Qualcomm MSM6246) which promises great multimedia capabilites and a responsive touch interface.
  • 3.1″ WVGA AMOLED screen supporting 16 million colors and with a resolution of 480*800 pixels for a vibrant display.
  • 3.5G (HSDPA 3.6 Mbps), EDGE/GPRS class12
  • wi-fi 802.11 b/g
  • minimum 2GB internal memory, extendable upto 16GB using microSD card
  • Improved version of Samsung’s trademark user interface, TouchWiz v2.0 UI with 3D cube design and accelerometer.
  • A-GPS
  • Great multimedia playback capabilites which includes MPEG4, H.263, H.264, WMV, DivX, XviD formats + 3.5mm audio jack and music player with DNSe and SRS sound effects.
  • 5 MP AF (2592 x 1944 pixel) camera with dual LED flash. Camera supports 30 fps video recording at 720 x 480 resolution. If you are clicking a still picture, the camera supports panorama mode, smile shot, mosaic shot and blink detection. the Samsung Jet also has a secondary camera for video calls.
  • HTML browser supporting Adobe Flash. Downloadble widgets.
  • FM radio with RDS and FM recording feature
  • Video and photo editor
  • Multi-task manager
  • Bluetooth with A2DP (v 2.1) and USB 2.0 (microUSB)

A few negative points about Samsung Jet:

- A xenon flash (I know none of the mobile camera phones launching these days have this feature but I just can’t stop wondering why? What is the point of a 5/8 MP camera if you can’t click good pictures in low light conditions?)

- Samsung’s TouchWiz currently does not enjoy great application support which other platforms like Windows Mobile, Symbian or even iPhone has.

- The touch screen was not responsive, specially near the screen boundaries. May be the problem was because it was a display phone but the lag was there. We had to tap “yes”, “no” or “exit” buttons like 10-15 times to get them work.

- Accelerometer isn’t very responsive either. Video din’t rotate smoothly when we changed the orientation of the phone. We had to try multiple times to get it work.

- One finger zoom, a user friendly feature which lets you zoom in-to images or websites in your web browser is not very neat. It zooms to fast and does not give you time to stop zooming where you want it to stop.

The best part is the price which is very affordable. The phone is priced affordably at around 21,500 INR.

The phone looks stylish.
